We are so f*ucked...

Yes Trump is all these things. BUT for now America is still a democracy and the more he fucks up the response to the pandemic, and his supporters die because they won't wear face masks cause culture wars - the worse it will get for him in November.
The fact that he had never heard of Juneteenth, but wants militarised police and the frigging army on the streets against peaceful protesters of colour and then describes it as beautiful - means the outpouring of righteousness will continue from our young people - and the worse it will get for him in November.
The more he gives trillion dollar bailouts to his pals, while SME's and sole traders flounder, and the more he fails to support unemployed Americans who have lost their jobs to this pandemic - the worse it will get for him in November.
The more he supports the brutality of white supremacist police who lynch black men for being black, the more Generation Z will continue to show their displeasure and politicising young people is certainly not a good plan for republicans. If the 18-25 year demographic vote on mass this November...

He was supposed to deliver SCOTUS...

All those republican religious right types have turned a blind eye to the utter immorality, the unethical and the criminal conduct of Twitler because he was supposed to deliver SCOTUS. But with gay employment rights and DACA being upheld this week they have to be wondering why they are sticking with him?

Of course what they have failed to realise - or maybe what they are just waking up to - is if you elect a complete and utter morality free moron to the highest office in the land everything he touches is going to turn to rancid dust. He and the sycophantic fuckwits he surrounds himself with are not skilled enough to deliver anything substantive - the people who remain silent in the face of the awfulness of this administration must know this. They have put 2 far right religious zealots in the Supreme Court and they STILL can't win these cases. Yet another thing they are losing at and one has to wonder if they cannot even deliver the Supreme Court to the righties why should the righties come out in November?

Now SCOTUS has confirmed that the haters cannot fire gay and trans employees just cause, and children who have known no other home than America cannot be sent to a land they do not know... Righties right now be like:

We are up to 23 individual entries in the Spring Competition

I am so happy that all of you are kicking this as much as you can, but I am going to nag you again. If you can find it in your splendid hearts to kick where you can... you know if we get 7 more original entries it would be bloody marvellous. Otherwise I suppose it will be the fastest fingered in posting when I open it up to a second. If you know of DUers who would normally participate but we have not seen them this time round, maybe you could DU mail them and provide the link? Just a thought.

And I will leave you with this. I love this community, and I love this group. From Peggy with her moons, to flamin lib keeping us highly engaged with the new skillz recently on display that are awe inspiring, to Siswan with such amazing nature shots, to mnhtnbb who not only keeps us all in shape but produces such stunning pictures, to Mira's quirky and interesting frames, to HAB911, alfredo, Adsos Letter, a la izquierda who consistently produces pictures of outstanding breathtaking beauty, to urbanhermit who we do not see often enough but when we do, oh boy! And to everyone else in this group - if I named everybody I would be here for a year - you are marvellous. You are artists. I am proud to be part of this community and I think that this group has provided more than one moment of quiet reflection and more than one moment of inspiration, happiness and feeling at peace, through your images, in such a very difficult time.

I am now going to stop being soppy and ask once again to do what you do best (after the photography of course!)

Dame Vera Lynn, singer and 'forces' sweetheart', dies aged 103

Dame Vera Lynn, whose song We’ll Meet Again became an anthem of hope and resilience during the second world war, has died aged 103.

Her family said they were “deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers,” and that they were with her when she died at her East Sussex home.

Labour politician Angela Rayner was among the first to pay tribute, calling her “a beautiful person who will be sadly missed by all who her knew her”.

Born in East Ham, on the outskirts of London, in 1917, Lynn survived a near-fatal case of diphtheria as a two-year old, and began performing aged seven. From the age of 18 she began performing with orchestras in the UK, and released her debut solo recording, Up the Wooden Hill to Bedfordshire, in 1936, while she worked in an East End shipping company.

The fact we are the sick men of the West is hardly a surprise

Summer 2020 is not going to be solved with lies, gaslighting and campaign slogans and that is all our leaders have. They spend their time signalling to their base because of power and privilege, while giving top jobs to incompetent and cruel white privileged males (and family members in Trumps case) because they kiss arse sufficiently and went to the right school, rather than because they have developed a competent skills set that might, you know, help run the country proficiently in a time of international crisis and chaos. I cannot point to anyone at our respective top tables who have exhibited any aptitude at all to run anything at all, never mind any of the great offices of state. Instead of demonstrating a commitment to addressing the real issues our countries face, they prefer to spend their time signalling their ideological purity to the fuckwits that voted for them. We need those who govern us to rise to the many challenges the world faces right now, and, instead we are stuck with a bunch of empty vessels who will do anything necessary to protect their power, rather than doing what is necessary to protect the people.

So as Mike Pence calls the American covid death toll a ‘cause for celebration’ – even while projections are that 200,000 will be dead by Autumn. And as Boris proclaims ‘Save Churchill's Statue’ in response to a whole generation coming out onto the streets to demand that systemic racism be dealt with, while our excess death rate in black communities is world leading and not in a good way, is it any wonder that based on the stats we are quite literally the sick men of the covid west? How did we get here? Oh, I know – people lost their fucking minds and voted in far-right wing wankers who have no clothes because of white is right dog whistle nasty on immigration and ‘exceptionalism’.

At least you get to vote Trump out in November. We are stuck with our bunch of Brexit crazy far right incompetent wankers for another 4 years. Oh goody.
