'Gift from God,' and other reasons why rape is not rape according to Republicans

Here are some reminders of what conservatives think about rape.

There was the Republican from Maine, Lawrence Lockman, who explained that if a woman had a right to an abortion, then rape wasn’t rape.

“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.”

The logic is mind-blowing. Don’t forget, it’s not just eastern seaboard Republicans. Colorado conservative Darryl Glenn knows that God’s special gift to women is sometimes rape?

If you want an abortion, don’t ask me to pay for it. That’s not something I’m gonna agree with. That’s a gift from God. There are no exceptions with that. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to pray for you.... That’s a life, regardless of how it got there, and I’m going to pray for you.
------
She’s just following in the footsteps of Glenn and Indiana Republican Richard Mourdock. Mourdock once opined:

I believe life begins at conception. The only exception I have for to have an abortion is in the case of the life of the mother. I struggled with myself for a long time but I came to realize life is that gift from God, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape. It is something that God intended to happen.

Brexit Party candidate says that leaving the EU will have an effect on the economy for '30 years'

Harris:

I think people have different priorities in this conversation and I think that the average person that voted leave, their priorities were to see democracy reinstated and know that their vote meant something but simultaneously, they wanted the sovereignty of their country back and I think at any cost they want that.

Campbell:

At any cost? What does that mean?

Kay:

This claim that the UK did not have it's sovereignty inside the EU is ridiculous. It says in the Brexit white paper that we never lost sovereignty.

These laws from the EU aren't dictated to us. They are made collaboratively.

Femi:

I'm really hung up on something that you said earlier. You said 'Brexit at any cost'

Please tell the people who are struggling in this country, that you want Brexit at any cost.

Campbell then asked Harris to try and elaborate on her comment and it wouldn't exactly fill your heart with hope and prosperity, even if you were the most staunch of Brexiteers.

Well...I don't...I mean...are you looking for a number...or?

I think short term there will be an effect on the economy. Short-term yes.

Campbell:

How long is short term?

Harris?

How long is short term? I don't know. The next 30 years?

I think short term there will be some effects on it.

A flabbergasted Campbell seemed shocked that she would predict such an extensive length of time, who quickly figured out that things wouldn't start to get better until three years before his 90th birthday.

Harris replied again:

The price of democracy and the price of sovereignty is high. People have died for this.

The economics of this sometimes isn't as important as the principle of it.

And therein lies the problem - how the fuck can you get through that level of bollocks? How can you argue rationally with such irrational nonsense.

Yet in the US, Neo-Nazi violence far outnumbers Islamic extremism.

White Supremacists get charged w hate crimes. Muslims get charged w terrorism.

This is a HUGE difference. Hate crimes are underreported, deprioritized, + aren’t treated as seriously as domestic terror charges.

Yet in the US, Neo-Nazi violence far outnumbers Islamic extremism.

Republican congressman Justin Amash calls for Trump's impeachment

He believes his colleagues are failing the US Constitution and the American people. He says Republicans are deliberately shirking their duty to thoroughly review Mueller’s 11 conclusions on obstruction of justice by the president. The report doesn’t clear Trump, Amash argues, but his colleagues are avoiding reading it closely because if they do they’ll be compelled to conclude as he did after a thorough consideration of the findings that Trump committed an impeachable offense. His first tweet outlines his position.

Amash points out that the burden of proof required for impeachment is lower than that required to charge someone with a criminal offense. In light of this, the lawyer didn’t hesitate to call for impeachment, writing, “Contrary to Barr’s portrayal, Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment.” He notes that “Mueller’s report identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice.” Amash believes that “undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence.”

You think the US won the War of Independence? I disagree....:-)

You know why? Here we are in 2019, living in the secular west, the religious right wing is doing its best to take away our freedoms. We still enjoy a freedom of choice that man and women kind has never known before of course, but not if they get their way. For the last 2000 years as the West has developed its customs rights and laws, they have looked to the bible to help shape the fundamental culture and behaviours of nations. In the UK, within the latter centuries, this was within the context of progressive thought and values as we matured as a nation, in the main because all our religious nutters headed west.

We are currently witnessing day in and day out, how the religious nutters that left England for the East India Company across the pond still have an influence today. Their descendants cling to mores from centuries ago like that is actually a good thing. It is not. It is pre-reformation thinking in a post-reformation world. Just in the last week or so it is possible to pluck unlimited examples of pre-reformation thinking from the religious right crowd. Alabama anyone? Missouri? From the squeals and howls of protest at the Equality Act, to claims of consensual rape. One would still mind a tad of pre-reformation thinking if they were following the teachings of Jesus, but that they don’t is galling, as they scramble to deny the rights and freedoms of fellow citizens. They fail in every measure of love, faith and belief.

The religious right continually resists embracing the values of the wider community, with a fierce howl of protest at the unfairness of it all, that they are right dammit. That they know the truth, that their values are the only values, that they are RIGHT.

Gotta tell ya. You know why we, the Brits, ACTUALLY won the war of Independence? It may seem that the Red Coats lost, but that is an illusion. Cause you got all our far right religious nutters. As mad as our lot our, they are nothing on your lot. Hands up. Our bad.

Sorry, but we won....

5 years old and still as relevant today as it was then

I'm a little worried about you, Nigel Farage. The reason I feel worried about you is that a lot of people are frightened in our country and are feeling afraid and frustrated.

There is a corrupt group in our country, using our resources, taking away our jobs, taking away our housing, not paying tax and exploiting us.

Let me tell you something, there was an economic crash and a lot of money was lost. His mates in the city farted, Nigel Farage is pointing at immigrants and the disabled and holding his nose.

Immigrants are not causing the economic problems that we are experiencing.

I enjoy seeing Nigel Farage in a boozer with a pint and a fag, laughing off his latest scandals about breastfeeding but this man is not a cartoon character.

He ain't Del Boy. He ain't Arthur Daley. He is a pound shop Enoch Powell, and we've got to watch him

The critique of Nigel Farage on the BBC is often weak and shallow and misses the point to why he is so dangerous.

However there was an exception which was that time when Russell Brand exposed Farage for exactly what he is live on #BBCqt

Destroyed him..... but he is still here.
