Oldest known human fossil outside Africa discovered in Israel

A prehistoric jawbone discovered in a cave in Israel has prompted scientists to rethink theories of how the earliest human pioneers came to populate the planet, suggesting that our ancestors left Africa far earlier than previously thought.

The fossil, dated to nearly 200,000 years ago, is almost twice as old as any previous Homo sapiens remains discovered outside Africa, where our species is thought to have originated.

The find suggests that there were multiple waves of migration across Europe and Asia and could also mean that modern humans in the Middle East were mingling, and possibly mating, with other human species for tens of thousands of years.

“Misliya breaks the mould of existing scenarios for the timing of the first known Homo sapiens in these regions,” said Chris Stringer, head of human origins at the Natural History Museum in London. “It’s important in removing a long-lasting constraint on our thinking.”

Senate Set To Vote On 20-Week Abortion Ban, Part Of Decades-Long Effort To Undo Roe

The Senate is set to take a procedural vote on a House-passed bill that would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, part of a long-running strategy to set up a legal challenge to Roe v. Wade.

In a 2015 article for Mother Jones, Molly Redden delved into the history of state 20-week bans, which were designed from the start to “push the envelope” on Roe:

In 1984, these bills became a formal strategy for defeating Roe. That’s when a Northwestern University law professor named Victor Rosenblum proposed that abortion opponents should seek to pass laws that gnawed at its edges, and hope that judges would let those revisions stand. The so-called incrementalists notched their biggest victory in 1989, when the Supreme Court upheld parts of a controversial Missouri law that required doctors to perform costly viability tests before performing abortions for women who appeared to be at least 20 weeks pregnant. The case, Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, demonstrated just how powerful a weapon a 20-week measure could be. Justice Thurgood Marshall’s papers revealed that the conservative majority in Webster had come within one vote of using the 20-week provision to strike down Roe entirely. The liberal justices went as far as drafting a dissent that read, “Roe no longer survives.”

Dunk on Trump. Fucking genius!!!!!!!

Named Dunk on Trump the game requires the player to do nothing more than hit the space bar until the character dunks the basketball right on top of Trump who is positioned right below the net.

The makers of the game clearly don't think the President's defensive game is up to much.
He writes:

This project isn't really a game, I just wanted to offer people the opportunity to slam dunk on Donald J. Trump.

I'm not a game dev at all, I hardly know what I'm doing but much like Donald Trump, I didn't let ignorance or lack of technical competence get in the way of my dreams, which is to let people vicariously dunk on Donald J. Trump.

Anyway, this is repetitive as sh** with no win condition but I'm hoping that someone out there will find my endless dunker perversely therapeutic and lose themselves 2 tha dunk, babyyyyy.

Christian publisher: Christians who reject Trump are like the Pharisees who plotted against Jesus

Appearing on the Focal Point radio program this week, the founder of the Christian magazine Charisma had an urgent message for his fellow Christians: When it comes to President Trump, dissent will not be tolerated.

While promoting his book God and Donald Trump, Steve Strang told host Alex McFarland that Christians who refuse to support Trump are much like the biblical “Pharisees in Jesus’ day” who plotted to undermine Jesus.

“Here he was, the promised Messiah, and these are the people who practice Jewish law better than anyone else and they just had a mindset against him and couldn’t see the truth,” Strang said. “A lot of people get a mindset, they think a certain way politically … and they just think that way and they don’t think for themselves.”

Delusional. History will judge these people badly

A Montana 'Handmaid's Tale': Local Prosecutor Calls for 'Immediate Crackdown' on Pregnant Drug and A

lcohol Users

A Montana prosecutor called this week for an "immediate crackdown" on women who use drugs or alcohol while pregnant, urging friends, family members, health care providers, and even strangers to turn in women they suspect to authorities. The prosecutor also warned drug- or alcohol-using pregnant women to "immediately self-report" to state health authorities to avoid criminal prosecution.

Even though there is zero scientific evidence supporting policies of coercion and punishment directed to pregnant women, some jurisdictions, mainly in the South, have taken to prosecuting women who give birth to children with drugs in their system. That's not good enough for Big Horn County Attorney Gerald Harris, who has concocted a toxic brew of right-wing, anti-choice, so-called fetal rights policies, and war on drugs ideology, along with a nice dollop of real-world racial disparity, to call for prosecuting pregnant women—and to go after them if they seek abortions to avoid prosecution.

In a Thursday press release, County Attorney Harris announced the crackdown, saying he will seek protection orders restraining pregnant women from any non-medically prescribed use of illicit drugs or alcohol, and those who violate the orders will be jailed to "incapacitate" them.

Just think if he was in France every single pregnant woman would be locked up!

UK Shadow Foreign Secretary: "He is an asteroid of awfulness that has fallen on this world. I think

that he is a danger and I think that he is a racist."

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry has said she believes US president Donald Trump is a racist.

After a week in which Trump was accused of describing African nations as "shitholes" and cancelled a visit to London, the Labour MP told the BBC that the US president was "a danger" to the world.

"He is an asteroid of awfulness that has fallen on this world," Thornberry, the senior foreign affairs spokesperson of Britain's official opposition party, told BBC One's The Andrew Marr Show. "I think that he is a danger and I think that he is a racist."
