Election forecaster moves two more Republican seats into 'tossup' column and predicts 'blue wave'...

...could inundate as many as House 45 seats

A respected election forecaster is predicting a House gain of 30 to 40 seats is the most likely outcome – but a full-on blue wave could lead to a 45 seat takeover.

In a final memo before Tuesday's election, the Cook Political Report's race-by-race forecast moves two Republicans, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry and Georgia's Karen Handel, into the tossup category.

Democrats would be two-thirds of the way to their needed 23 seat gain to capture the House just by picking up the seats that already lean their way.

In that case, they would need to pick up just eight of the remaining 30 pure 'tossup' races.
-------------
But the nonpartisan analyst notes that in two years when control of Congress changed control, the 2016 Democratic and the 2010 'Tea Party' wave, the winning party rolled up 57 per cent of the tossups and all the races leaning their way, along with 19 per cent of the seats leaning the other way, along with 9 per cent of the other side's 'likely' seats.

Such a scenario would lead to a 40-seat Democratic gain, although, although polls this year have revealed enthusiasm among members of both political parties.

The American civil war didn't end. And Trump is a Confederate president

In the 158th year of the American civil war, also known as 2018, the Confederacy continues its recent resurgence. Its victims include black people, of course, but also immigrants, Jews, Muslims, Latinos, trans people, gay people and women who want to exercise jurisdiction over their bodies. The Confederacy battles in favour of uncontrolled guns and poisons, including toxins in streams, mercury from coal plants, carbon emissions into the upper atmosphere, and oil exploitation in previously protected lands and waters.
--------
Long after Trump is gone, we will have these delusional soldiers of the Confederacy and their weapons, and ending the war means ending their allegiance to the narrow “us” and the entitlement to attack. As Michelle Alexander reminded us recently: “The whole of American history can be described as a struggle between those who truly embraced the revolutionary idea of freedom, equality and justice for all, and those who resisted.” She argues that we are not the resistance; we are the river that they are trying to dam; they are the resistance, the minority, the people trying to stop the flow of history.

......registration system

Saying an attempt was made to hack the state’s voter registration system, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has launched an investigation of the Democratic Party of Georgia, reports the Atlanta Journal.
----
“While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber crimes,” said Candice Broce, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s Office. “We can also confirm that no personal data was breached and our system remains secure.”

The Right Wing Blame Game

You got raped? Well if that skirt had been a little longer, if that beer had been a little weaker, if you had been home knitting it would never have happened. It is all your fault. You brought if on yourself by wanting to be female while interacting with society on any level at all.

You got beaten up while gay? Well if you would just accept that no-one else wants to see your affection for your partner it would never have happened. It is all your fault. You brought it on yourself for holding the hand of your partner in public.

You are poor and hungry? Well you only have yourself to blame. Get a second job. Oh, you have one already? Then get a third. You cannot expect a living wage in a low skilled occupation. It is all your fault. You brought it on yourself by not getting that bigger and better job, work harder dammit.

You are young and black and get killed by the police? Well, surely you know that taking mindless instruction from the overseer is your lot in life? You failed to do so? You are dead? It is all your fault. You brought in yourself by having the audacity to walk down the street.

There is a flood, a drought, a tornado or a hurricane? A community destroyed, people dead, people injured. It is all your fault. You brought it on yourself, because ……..the gay….. the dems….the disrespect for our authority…

You are not white, not male, and not successful? It is all your fault. You brought it on yourself for not being them.

We brought it on ourselves, because they say so….. just before they rape us, steal from us, subjugate us and murder us.

Do we have FREE WILL?

Are we the master of our own destiny or are we all victims of fate? Is our life’s paths predetermined as part of Gods plan or can you overcome your circumstances? Are we prisioners to fate or to our biology?

The idea / concept of free will to make decisions that impact our futures touches all of our lives every day, but many people believe that free will is an illusion. It is true that no-one knows what is going to happen next. Life is a tale of the unexpected and through the amazing and yet to be fully understood complexity of our consciousness we make daily decisions about what we do. But can those decisions ever be truly unfettered and if not, how can we have pure free will? There is an ideal of free will that there is magical power to make choices for ourselves, that are not constrained choices. That in some way our choices are not predetermined to some extent by our history, our biology, our society. How can that be logical? Surely, we are all products, to one degree or another, of our past.
Is free will all a matter a definition? Free ‘will’ and free ‘won’t’ mean different things to people from different faiths and those of no faith. If we go with a pragmatic definition of free will then I think we can accept that most human beings have the capacity to learn from our mistakes and adjust our future behaviour accordingly.

The theology of free will is somewhat baffling. If your faith construct offers you a belief in a final judgement, in eternal punishment or eternal salvation then to justify this you need to attribute to human beings not only the capacity to make choices, but that we have the capacity to make choices that are wholly responsible for what we do, how we do it, and the outcomes for us from those choices. In essence, the buck stops with us. But this cannot be realistic. We can of course all make moral choices but they are constrained by environmental, societal and historical factors. We do not have pure free will, to pretend otherwise is a cop out for those who are not interested in social justice.

Pure free will is used as a great excuse to stifle social support networks. If they just made better choices, they would better themselves. They have a freedom to choose. Free will is much more complex than that.

Republican Openly Endorses Assassination and Sedition in the Name of Jesus

If you haven't heard about this yet, it's amazing that this story isn't front page news across the country and testament to how coddled Republicans are by the media in this country:

State Rep. Matt Shea of Spokane Valley in conservative eastern Washington has been under fire since he acknowledged in a Facebook video last week that he had distributed the four-page document titled, "Biblical Basis for War" to some of his supporters.

The document condemns abortion and same-sex marriage and describes how those who don't follow biblical law should be punished. At one point, the document says, "If they do not yield, kill all males."

Amazingly, it's actually worse than that. In this blueprint for a violent theocracy, there's an entire section about how good Christian soldiers should respond to "tyranny." It involves assassination, sedition, and civil war.
-----------
The worst part about this is the fact that Shea has not been forced to immediately resign. Never mind the whole "Imagine a Democrat had been caught advocating terrorism" spiel; just think about what it says about the Republican Party that one of their own is outed as a violent jihadist, yes I'm using that word quite deliberately, and they collectively shrug. That should tell you how acceptable this kind of extremism is in the GOP. It's not an outlier at all. That's how far off the deep end they've gone.

What bunkum I cried. What gobbledygook they proclaimed.

As one dashed out the door, an absolutely spiffing idea occurred to me. On returning to my abode one made haste to the parlour and with great exuberance and in a parlance that I determined would surely galvanise my audience, I imparted my idea. Oh my! One failed to consider the xanthippe and the mammothrept. One must also bear in mind that a beastly ragamuffin had seemingly apported from nowhere and the scurrilous chap was simply brutish. Now I consider myself a rather good egg and was a tad flummoxed, by jove, at the reaction of the termagent and the babalevante. They were blithering idiots to claim my stupendous idea was balderdash. What bunkum I cried! What gobbledygook they proclaimed!

I must confess that at this point I got rather rambunctious. The jaunt must be planned. I was absolutely smitten with the idea. It was marvellous! Super! But the detractors to whom I spoke called it superfluous, claimed I was a flibbertigibbet. Well this old bean started to caterwaul. The jaunt was to meet a rather dapper old chap who was generally a jolly good show, I was confounded that they would try and deny me.
