Everyday I hate them a little more. They are passing bills to limit the authority of public health

Officials.
Guest on Chris Hayes just said it. These evil bastards. Teachers shouldn’t teach history, now public health officials shouldn’t secure public health.
We don’t have to think of another pandemic to see how this is just nuts. We have other infectious diseases that public health officials need to take action. In fact, shortly before the pandemic,we were dealing with an outbreak of Hepatitis where I lived in Florida. We were sanitizing everything at work before Covid.

So the next time there is a Hepatitis outbreak traced to a restaurant, do they get to defy the Health Department’s orders to close?
I really hate these fuckers.

Funny I didn’t hear Deathsantis complaining back then.

This is from an article about the Hepatitis outbreak.

The move gave the health department the authority to take certain preventative measures, such as increasing the supply of vaccines, ordering people suspected of having the disease to be tested and either isolating or quarantining anyone found to be ill.
State health department records show that more than 300,000 hepatitis A vaccinations were administered to persons 18 and older statewide last year, largely through county health departments and private health-care providers

Lawrence O'Donnell on that concerned mother in the Younkin ad who wanted Toni Morrison's book banned

I’m paraphrasing, he said
This concerned mother who was just so appalled and horrified by Toni Morrison’s book. Had no problem with her delicate son interning for trump who was on tape saying he likes to grab women by the pussy.

Sen Klobuchar just said what I've been thinking. Make intimidating election workers a federal crime

These people are purposely trying to interfere with elections. Giving someone water who has been standing on a line is illegal, but not this?

The death threats brought Staci McElyea to tears. The caller said that McElyea and other workers in the Nevada Secretary of State’s office were “going to f------ die.” She documented the threats and alerted police, who identified and interviewed the caller. But in the end, detectives said there was nothing they could do – that the man had committed no crime.

The first call came at 8:07 a.m. on Jan. 7, hours after Congress certified Donald Trump’s loss to Joe Biden in the November 2020 presidential vote. The caller accused McElyea of “stealing” the election, echoing Trump’s false claims of voter fraud. “I hope you all go to jail for treason. I hope your children get molested. You’re all going to f------ die,” he told her.

He called back three times over the next 15 minutes, each time telling her she was “going to die.”

A week later, state police concluded that Juncaj’s threats were not criminal, characterizing them as “protected” political speech, according to a summary of the case. Juncaj was never arrested or charged. Asked about the calls, Juncaj told Reuters he didn’t believe he had done anything wrong. “Like I explained to the police, I didn’t threaten anybody,” he said.

Republican backers ghostwrote a bill that would punish homosexuality with death in Ghana

The trail behind Ghana’s "death to gays" bill leads back to American evangelical groups that have been shoveling cash to Republican politicians while writing draconian bills for African countries.

The new law against LGBTQ people would also put people at risk for prosecution for associating with LGBTQ people, which led one Ghanaian publication to say it “compels Ghanaians to police gender and sexuality in their homes, workplaces, and everyday lives.”

SNIP

There are other groups that are fervent about passing this bill as well, many of which are evangelical groups in the United States.

A CNN report exposed that one of the groups behind Ghana’s LGBTQ death penalty bill was a group known as the World Congress of Families (WCF), a group formed from an alliance of conservative organizations from the United States and Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. The WCF is deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

NIH says grantee failed to report experiment in Wuhan that created a bat virus that made mice sicker

The do nothing GQP is demanding that Fauci be fired

An ongoing controversy over what constitutes virology research that is too dangerous to conduct—and whether the U.S government funded studies in China that violated a policy barring funding for such risky research—has taken a new turn. While denying once again it had helped create the virus that sparked the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealed in a letter sent yesterday to Republicans in Congress that experiments it funded through a U.S.-based nonprofit in 2018 and 2019 at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China had the “unexpected result” of creating a coronavirus that was more infectious in mice.

NIH says the organization holding the parent grant, the EcoHealth Alliance, failed to immediately report this result to the agency, as required. A newly released progress report on that grant also shows that EcoHealth and WIV conducted experiments changing the virus that causes Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), which is raising additional questions.

NIH noted in its letter that when the agency reviewed the original EcoHealth grant proposal, it determined the proposed experiments—designed to determine whether certain bat coronaviruses might infect humans—did not meet its definition of so-called gain-of-function (GOF) experiments that can make pathogens more dangerous to humans.

The letter is giving fuel to critics of NIH who say agency leaders have not been upfront with Congress

Delivering newspapers while Black. Sherriff charged for lying on black man. 40 armed units responded

This is so chilling. Just listen to how calm and how easy it is for him to lie to the 911 dispatcher. Thankfully this man did not lose his life over this asshole's lies. He should be fired.

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Washington state attorney general on Tuesday filed two misdemeanor criminal charges against a county sheriff stemming from his confrontation with a Black newspaper carrier in January.
Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer faces one count of false reporting and one count of making a false statement to a civil servant for claiming to an emergency dispatcher that the carrier, Sedrick Altheimer, had threatened to kill him. The charges were filed in Pierce County District Court by Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

Altheimer, 24, was driving on his regular delivery route on Jan. 27 when Troyer noticed the vehicle, got out of bed and began following it in his unmarked personal SUV. Troyer said he believed it might have been someone stealing delivery packages off porches.
The two wound up in a 2 a.m. standoff in which Troyer called an emergency dispatcher, saying the newspaper carrier had threatened to kill him.

The call from the county’s top law-enforcement officer prompted a large response, with more than 40 units from various agencies rushing toward to the scene.

In a statement to a responding officer, Troyer acknowledged that Altheimer did not threaten him, the Attorney General's Office wrote in a probable cause statement.

I am so sad and angry for him having to go through this. For nothing more than working a night job delivering newspapers.

Meet the man pushing for the racially motivated push for Buckhead to secede from Atlanta.

They are calling Buckxit. Tuckums even did his bit on his show about it.

No matter what these folks say. It is about race. It is always about race.
Crime has gone up all over America. White folks separating themselves from black folks does not solve the issue of crime.
And guess what folks? The same crime affects poor neighborhoods. They can't pick up and cut themselves off from the rest of Atlanta.
Perhaps if rich folks focused on inequities and worked with leadership and communities to solve issues, there would be less crimes.
Atlanta is truly a place of the haves and the have nots. You don't have to drive very far to see the disparities between sprawling Mcmansions expensive high rise condos and then see homelessness and poverty. There is a whole lotta whining from rich folks about Atlanta " taking their money and they are not getting services". Uhm Buckhead is in Atlanta. Atlanta is not taking your money. I lived in Gwinnett County where home property tax is ridamdiculous. Better schools. I never complained even though I have no school aged children.

Speaking of crime. Funny how privileged entitled white men don't seem to have a problem with " white collar crime". IMO, that is worse than the poor person that commits a crime out of desperation or feels that there is no other way for them to survive.

Keep in mind that Alan Hevesi went to prison.

William “Bill” White, an unlicensed placement agent and former fundraiser for Alan G. Hevesi, former New York state comptroller, agreed to pay a $1 million settlement to the state for his role in the so-called pay-to-play scandal involving the $124.8 billion New York State Common Retirement Fund, Albany.

In addition, Mr. White will cooperate with state Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo's ongoing investigation and abide by Mr. Cuomo's code of conduct, prohibiting placement agents from doing business with New York pension funds, according to a news release from Mr. Cuomo.

NY businessman fueling movement to secede wealthy suburb from Atlanta
A modern civil war in Atlanta is being led by a carpetbagger with deep roots in the Big Apple.

Bill White, 54, is fueling the growing movement by the wealthy, mostly-white suburb of Buckhead to secede from the city of Atlanta — even though he’s a born-and-bred Yankee from New York City who only moved down south three years ago.

Witnessing the increased lawlessness drove White to pursue the effort to make Buckhead, where the median listed home price is close to $600,00, its own city, with its own police and court system, he said.

“We had some guy come up our driveway and try to steal our car. My sister’s home was robbed and her neighbor’s home was robbed. Our friends have been carjacked. They have had their cars broken into,” White recalled.

Buckhead City would triple the number of cops in the area and pay them better than the Atlanta Police Department, which he believes is being undercut by Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Buckhead courts, he claimed, would not be lenient with lawbreakers.
Snip
Once a prominent Democratic donor who even held a $25,000-a-plate dinner for President Obama in 2014, White dramatically switched sides in 2016 after President Trump’s victory and went on to become a mega GOP fundraiser
