Officer's first words after shooting Rayshard Brooks twice in the back: "I got him"

“There’s one good thing about video,” [Fulton County District Attorney Paul] Howard told CNN. “Because in the video, we actually get a chance to hear the officer’s first statement after the shooting took place. And what the officer said is not that his life was saved. What his statement was, is ‘I got him.’”

Time to stop arguing on DU whether Rayshard Brooks' shooting was justified

The Atlanta Police Department and the Fulton County D.A. - not exactly a hotbed of liberal cop haters - seem to have settled the issue.

Not only did the PD summarily fire the shooting officer, the DA plans to bring charges against him.

The Fulton County District Attorney criticized the police officers' handling of the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta on Friday and said that a decision on whether to bring charges could come around Wednesday.

".(Brooks) did not seem to present any kind of threat to anyone, and so the fact that it would escalate to his death just seems unreasonable," DA Paul Howard told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday.

"If that shot was fired for some reason other than to save that officer's life or prevent injury to him or others, then that shooting is not justified under the law."

So, please. Stop trying to argue that the shooting was justified.

If, as some here are insisting, the cop was justified in shooting Brooks, why was he promptly fired?

Not suspended, not put on administrative leave, not given desk duty. Fired. Immediately.

Obviously, his superiors in the Atlanta Police Department believed that the shooting was not only unjustified, but also grounds for immediate termination.

So can we stop with the attempts here to justify shooting an unarmed black man in the back as he ran away?

It's bad enough when rogue cops, Trumpers and other bigots excuse police brutality against us, time after time after time. But it's especially disheartening when people who claim to be our allies try to gaslight us into thinking we're overreacting because, after all, the dead black man had it coming.

And you wonder why we're mad?

Even the "We don't know the whole story/If only he hadn't resisted/Not all cops" crowd can't defend this ...
