I know Father's Day is over, but i have to share this, out of shame and a bit of serendipity.

Must have been maybe 1985, I came home from work with a live lobster that I was going to treat myself for dinner. Our youngest daughter, 4 years old, was playing 'school' on the living room floor with her Barbie and one of the older kids' lunchbox.
When my daughter wasn't looking, out of what I can only describe as a moment of severely misguided playfulness, I put the live lobster (claws rubber-banded) in the lunchbox and sat back and watched.
The blood-curdling scream went on for a long time, I was interrogated by my wife as to WHY I thought that would be funny, and I think our daughter mistrusted me for quite few months. It has since become a favorite family story.
Anyway, the serendipity part. Yesterday (Father's Day), I was scrolling thru Facebook and saw a Far Side cartoon that i don't remember seeing before. I sent it to all of our 4 children, and they all immediately got the reference!

In honor of Mother's Day, i want to pay tribute to my grandmother, who loved and raised me.

I told somebody the other day, that the only complaint i have about my childhood, is that i wasnt prepared for the realization that not everybody adored me like my grandmother did!

I have a trans grandson, and a few years ago, at the beginning of his transition, we watched this

'Ma Vie en Rose' (My Life in Pink). It is a Belgian movie with English subtitles. I had seen the movie before, and when we learned of his transitioning (a sensitive and bit shy 15 year old), we watched the movie together.
He was tremendously moved, and i think a little strengthened, by the movie. Afterwards he asked me through tears, why he had never heard of this movie, why other people had not seen it. I told him that the US had put an R rating on it, even though there was nothing sexual about the movie, to make sure that kids DIDN'T see it!
