The above article tries to draw a contrast between Chief Justice Roberts who, "tries to sound like a reasonable moderate (though he often isn’t)" and Alito, "an aggrieved and paranoid culture warrior (which he really is)."
Though in practice, the "difference" has eluded me.
Anyway, referenced therein is a speech delivered by Alito two years ago, at some “religious summit” in Rome, his remarks having made headlines for his mocking of foreign leaders for criticizing the overturning of Roe. Said the flag waver, "The faithful must fight “the new moral code” that is “ascendent” in secular society... one that (allegedly) breeds “hostility” toward “traditional religious beliefs.”
As noted in the article, Alito "condemned reproductive choice, same-sex marriage, and even COVID-related safety measures as persecution against religious conservatives]."
Right. Because, in their sick fk minds, the sight of a same sex couple is somehow, persecution, I guess.
Bottom line being, for Alilto, and other radical MAGA judges, the TRUE STAKES in this election (besides the end of democracy and the establishment of a fkng DICTATORSHIP)
will be the END of separation between church, and state - and the established of a new fascist government, founded upon a far right religious fundamentalism, whose "moral code" will be based upon CRUELTY and HATE.
And fkrs like Alito just can't WAIT.

repeated these words he'd used before, and imo, truer words were never spoken.
Booker minced few words in this week's Colbert appearance, in condemning MAGA/Republicans' roll back of gains in civil/abortion rights, and in expressing complete lack of trust in the integrity of a far right RADICALIZED judiciary, including the Supreme Court.

But yes, Jeanine: That’s how the legal system works. If a jury returns 34 guilty counts in less than 10 hours of deliberation, it’s pretty clear that the prosecutor made his case. The jury of Donald Trump’s peers found Daniels and Michael Cohen to be credible witnesses. That must really frost the MAGA elites on Fox. Trump lawyer Todd Blanche tried and tried to discredit them, especially Cohen. Obviously, the jury wasn’t buying what he was selling.
But the dumbest of them all was Susan Collins’s statement, especially this part: “The district attorney, who campaigned on a promise to prosecute Donald Trump, brought these charges precisely because of who the defendant was rather than because of any specified criminal conduct.”
She got pounded on X/Twitter all night. It’s pretty hard to say that criminal charges are corrupt and illegitimate after a jury handed down an unequivocal thunderclap of a verdict like that. We should pause for a moment and think about the contempt for the justice system inherent in Collins’s words.
Have to hold it to four paragraphs. But read the rest of this op-ed by Michael Tomasky because he was SPOT ON in describing the lunacy erupting from MAGA CAMP over the pos' GUILTY verdict.

changing constitutional law,
radicalizing the judiciary
taking over Democrat run cities, sabotaging the vote in their favor (like they're doing in Texas as we speak), mandating far right"Christan" fundamentalism in schools,
outlawing Black studies,
banning books and censoring the internet,
criminalizing gay people,
outlawing all abortions and contraceptives,
mass deportations
militarizing police departments and granting them wholesale immunity, even from being video taped or recorded (like they're doing in Louisiana)
instituting stops and searches
cutting and rolling back assistance programs and so-called entitlements like Social Security, SNAPS, Medicaid, and Medicare
privatizing education at tax payers' expense
killing Affirmative Action and minority business grants
undermining environmental protections against polluters in oil and chemical industries
cutting green initiatives
undermining consumer protections
weakening NATO...
... and that's just off the top of my head, because they have FAR WORSE in mind.
And if reminding people of what's at stake this election is "talking down to them" then all I can say is heaven HELP us.

I just read a Huffpost article yesterday about record breaking travel this Memorial Day weekend, in spite of major storms and fears over the economy.
Which reminded me. Because I also remember reading about all time record breaking sales last Christmas (something like 935 billion?) and an overall record in sales for the entire year 2023 (5 trillion).
Which begs the question: if the economy is so fkng terrible under Biden, and people's pocketbooks so much in a bind, HOW IS ALL THIS POSSIBLE?
It doesn't add up.
