(14,249 posts)The art and the politics are usually two different things for me.
But there are exceptions where I draw the line. Bigotry, hate, cruelty, depravity are among them.
That's why I don't go to Woody Allen movies. He's a twofer - an unrepentant pedophile and a bigot who makes films that never include any who is not white, which really takes some doing since most of his films take place in NYC.
I don't buy or listen to R. Kelly because he, too, is a pedophile who exploits and harms girls and young women. He disgusts me as a human being on a very basic level and I will not contribute a nickel to support his art and livelihood.
Roseanne is in that category. She's a hate mongering, vile-spewing racist. If she were just an actress who appeared in a film or television show, perhaps I'd watch her (but probably not, since I find her one-note screeching "everywoman" schtick really annoying). But her show is not just entertainment that she's participating in. The show is centered around her, not as an actress, but as a person and the show is a message, again, all about her. The show and the star are completely inseparable, so her stench is smeared all over it.
And I'm not going to let any of it get on me, so I'm staying far away from it.
