The seat is still listed as a “tilt GOP“ because of its R+8 partisan voting index and the fact that it’s been Red since Kennedy was president. But there are reasons for optimism. First, the GOP incumbent (Pettinger) lost to an insurgent Trumpkin (Harris) with less broad appeal in a district that has been trending more competitive. Second, the Dem nominee, Dan McCready, has raised as much to date as the other six candidates who competed in the primaries combined. The only one who was close was Pettinger. McCready now has about $1.2M on hand to Harris’ $70K. And third, though I think this stat is overrated as a predictor of general election turnout, over 10k more voters cast ballots in the Dem primary than the GOP primary. McCready alone received more votes than all GOP candidates combined, in fact. That certainly can’t be a bad thing.
