(34,456 posts)55. An anecdote supporting that--I'm in a very blue district and not only did
our rep get re-elected by >70%, we had record % turnout for a non-Presidential year--highest since the 1960s IIRC. And I'm in VA where we elect Governors in odd years (such as 2017), so there are even more years to beat than typical. We are among the states judged "difficult" to vote in because we don't have early voting other than absentee, etc. We had a few local issues but nothing out of the ordinary, so it would have been easy to understand if people stayed home.
So I think this means, if not enthusiasm--People wanted to send a message to Trump and his enablers.
