preexisting conditions and and return to decent, properly functioning government. That spoke to the desires of some moderate conservatives in the midterms, whose votes helped turn the suburbs blue and even some rural areas pink.

And for sure they will not be asking questions and proving -- to their own minds only -- that Republicans are wrong. That'd be like spitting acid into a strong wind.

As for me in the deep south, these days I only speak up when they complain about government and I remind them that they don't have to take "it," that every two years they have the opportunity to kick the crooks out of office and elect people who won't betray them. These topics are mostly strenuously avoided, but when I am rarely asked about anything I tell them it's above all a moral issue for me, which it always is, and I have no choice but to hold the position I do.
