(14,570 posts)If I disagree, I will speak up. The thing is, most of the time the absolute worst Dem position is better by a long-shot policy-wise than the best Republican position. Look at the giant tax cut for corporations and billionaires as an example. This is absolutely masterful in terms of policies that make up the Republican long game. But it totally sucks, is the very epitome of fiscal irresponsibility and demonstrably showed, once again, how 'trickle-down' economics does not work. That's just a lie.
See what I mean?
Now, I've seen various Dems tout the position of a middle class tax cut. Now, I disagree with that policy on its face unless it ALSO involves a repeal of the Republican tax cut, and a substantial raise of taxes on corporations and high earners, as well as some tax on capital gains. Tax-wise, lifting the cap on the SS payroll tax would also go a long way toward keeping that program solvent, and a minor tax on each Wall Street trade (they have so-called 'arbitrage 'bots' that will pull the trigger on massive stock trades with just a tenth of a point movement). Tax those transactions and we'll substantially increase government revenue for programs Americans actually need.
You gotta talk policy. Never ad-hominem.
