Everyone must write in and protest this. They have to understand how important a contribution political cartoonists make.

I think a lot has to do with not being able to control the message. These artists have a lot of leeway, naturally. And I'd say that most, at least the best, are more liberal than the senior editors of papers. Certainly of the owners. This goes for all major papers. A cartoonist is able to leap frog the editors opinion piece as the first impression viewers see. I'm sure for many more conservative senior editors this is a great day.
