There is a little counter chip inside of them that records the amount of plug-ins. In most laptops, I think the limit is around 1,000 charges. This is their way to prevent batteries from exploding or catching fire. My sister would kill her laptop batteries in less than a year by going from room to room and plugging it in. Then, she would buy batteries from Amazon or eBay which are mostly gray market clones. Only buy laptop batteries from the manufacturer, not even from a reseller, because they might cut supply chain corners. BoingBoing did a thing 5 or more years ago about how the most legit battery is probably some clone that has no fire protections and are made using questionable batteries. The external housing looks legit, I mean really legit, but the insides. . .
Don't need a 4AM house fire.
