(2,841 posts)I was with my then girlfriend and my two really good friends (husband and wife) from Tampa. We ate and drank well wandering around the French Quarter (as I've done dozens of times in previous years). As our buzzes grew we were looking for something to do out of the ordinary, so to speak. Only about 40 feet away was a theater (bar) that had drag shows. We hemmed and hawed and then we all came to a consensus. What the fuck! Let's do it and see what it's all about. We all had a thoroughly great time. It was fantastic. Two of the dancers came to our table and thanked us for being enthusiastic (alcohol) as we were. It was my first dedicated drag show and we all had a great time.
I wasn't accosted, I wasn't hit on, I wasn't injured, I wasn't freaked out. It was a very good time. Everyone in the crowd was just as enthusiastic and enjoyed themselves too.
To me, they're just another segment of our fucked up society that's easily marginalized and exploited for political gain. Our country is really descending into a pathetic state.
