I'm not disagreeing with you that this is a sign of an addiction. I'm saying it's different from having a sponsor. This is an abdication of personal responsibility

A sponsor is someone the addict calls for support and guidance in moments of doubt. The sponsor is supposed to respond to requests for support, not spy on the addict or initiate nagging.

This Covenant thing is handing somebody else the responsibility to spy on you. The point of recovery is to take responsibility for one's own behavior. This is the opposite: participants are saying they don't want to take responsibility; they want somebody else to spy on them. And then do what?
