(29,809 posts)I am just in earlier stages of it. It is called aphasia. It is the inability to recall a name or a word you want to say. It get progressively worse.
When Biden is off the tele prompter you can see it... he will start to say something to make a point... stop... and sort of drift off and eventually says "whatever". I've seen him do it numerous times in live appearances. Some subjects like foreign affairs and NATO, he is the master ( despite his occasional stutter ). This has nothing to do with stuttering. It is the inability to remember something that you KNOW YOU KNOW. Reaching for a word or a name or something. Sometimes I forget the name of good friends from just a few years ago. My condition is not serious yet... but I see the signs of "covering". I am 13 years younger than Biden.
The job of President, if you take it seriously, is one of the hardest jobs on the planet... probably THE hardest jobs. If you get the DVD set of "The West Wing" be sure and watch the extras they added where they interview real ex-Presidents. As Jimmy Carter says... only the really difficult questions get to the President's desk, usually where there are lives at stake now and in the future. These decisions age you enormously ( but only if you care about other people than yourself ).
