Bill bans bongs, pipes in Florida
New legislation prohibits sale, consumption of smoking pipes
Floridian youth has been railing against the newly signed House Bill 49, the Bong Ban bill, which at first glance would seem to ensure the ruin of Florida tobacco shops and hookah bars.
Approved by Gov. Rick Scott on June 5, the new piece of legislation bans the sale of water pipes, chamber pipes, electric pipes, ice pipes and air-driven pipes.
Essentially, if an item can be used specifically for smoking, it can no longer be sold, owned, used, manufactured, delivered, advertised or transported in the state of Florida.
An anonymous FSU student said they think the pipe ban bill is ridiculous because so many items can be converted to smoking devices. This student was much less phased by the bill, and wasnt exactly taking it seriously.
Are they going to ban apples and Pepsi cans now? I can make bongs out of anything, the student said.
