In 1984, the World Health Organization (WHO) asked the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to spearhead the effort of its eradication, an effort that was further supported by the Carter Center.[30] In 1986, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his not-for-profit organization, the Carter Center, began leading the global campaign, in conjunction with CDC, UNICEF, and WHO.[36] At that time Pakistan, Yemen and 17 countries in Africa were endemic for this disease and reported a total of 3.5 million cases per year.
In 2014 there were 126 cases of the disease reported.[8] This is down from 3.5 million cases in 1986.[2] It only exists in 4 countries in Africa, down from 20 countries in the 1980s.[1][8] The country most affected is South Sudan.[8] It will likely be the first parasitic disease to be globally eradicated.[9] Guinea worm disease has been known since ancient times.[2] It is mentioned in the Egyptian medical Ebers Papyrus, dating from 1550 BC.[10] The name dracunculiasis is derived from the Latin "affliction with little dragons",[11] while the name "guinea worm" appeared after Europeans saw the disease on the Guinea coast of West Africa in the 17th century.[10] A species similar to guinea worms causes disease in other animals.[12] These do not appear to infect humans.[12] It is classified as a neglected tropical disease.[13

The GOP always hated the POTUS, because he is the only one to follow the teachings of Christ.
