The only time I can remember winning a DUzy was back in 2008. During primary season, I had written a post mocking the idea that Obama was receiving favorable treatment in the press compared to Hillary.
Basically what I did was take a list of the things the press had done to Obama and sarcastically claimed they were doing them to Hillary instead. I started with saying "They always call her Hillary RODHAM Clinton to remind primary voters that she's the daughter of a Republican" and so on and so forth.
I was trying to be funny and not trying to take a swipe at Clinton supporters, but on the other hand, it WAS basically taking a side in the primary war.
I don't think it helps us in the long run or even in the short run to be attacking each other, but in some ways we all need to lighten up. I mean sometimes perhaps you can appreciate the snark EVEN when it is directed at you, yourself. If ten good friends decide to play a game of basketball, divided into opposing teams, you can appreciate it when the other team has a clever play.
In the movie War Games the teacher asks
"Who was the first person to suggest the idea of reproduction without sex?"
and the student naturally answers
"Your wife?"
at which point he gets sent to the office.
But IF the relationship was NOT antagonistic, perhaps the teacher could have laughed too and admitted "okay, I walked into that one, didn't I?"
At the end of the day somebody is going to win and somebody going to lose, and we need to come together on the same side again if we are not going to lose in November.
As such, we need MORE humor and LESS antagonism.
