41. Making plans to deal with my family

Parents who have been watching Faux News for years....and 3 siblings, their spouses and children all right wing nuts. I'm the black sheep of the family--old hippy that they call a socialist!

I haven't spoken politics with them for years but thru Facebook I know they voted for Trump...but now my question to myself: Is my whole family racists and bigots OR are they just stupid???

My 79 year old mom just had surgery....and it took everything I had to call and ask about her health. As I come out of the fog from our unexpected loss--I know I can't be around them for Thanksgiving this year--too soon. Maybe I can do a quick trip to see them for Christmas...but I don't know if I can be at my mom's 80th birthday party on the weekend of the inaugural.

I have a cousin who had a falling out with her parents years ago and they never spoke again. I don't want that for me and my parents. I mean---How crazy would it be that I cut ties with my family over Donald Trump?!?!

It is the nature of Rethugs and Trumpers to gloat and rub it in your face....so I am preparing some responses.

Yes you won! (then go wash dishes)
We'll just have to wait and see! (then go do the laundry)
You asked for it--and here it is! (then go out for drinks!)

I haven't posted much over the years...but I've come to the site every day and I'm happy DU is back up for my personal sanity!
