(5,344 posts)I feel grateful I'm as old as I am. I'm 66 and, still working, and started getting full SS benefits last July.
Last time the R's tried to fuck with SS and Medicare, Their plan was to phase it in over time, leaving folks my age unaffected.
I work in a very red state, AR, and work with some very redneck people at an ammunition factory.
When my fellow younger workers complain that, "There won't be any SS when "I" get that old", I just tell them this.
"If your generation doesn't get off your collective asses and FIGHT for it, then you'll be right. It WON'T be here when you get old."
Usually I get a blank stare as a response, because these folks are truly braindead when it comes to politics.
My generation fought for what we wanted. We brought about great changes that are taken for granted these days. Every generation before us did the same. We weren't always perfect and not always successful, but we fought for the kind of future we wanted to see. Unless this next generation gets off their asses and fights for the future they want, what they do have now will be stripped away little by little, piece by piece.
