He's a good media lightning rod for them, at least in the short term. They can use him for distraction, perhaps lay all the blame on him for unpopular actions taken by their party and its larger movement. But they won't want to let their movement be defined by Trumpism, in the longer term. Trump, Pence, and Ryan are all pretty scary, representing different factions of the RW movement. Sooner or later, the factions they represent will be in conflict, each trying to define the future of the party. And Cheney's back in there, apparently, trying to make sure the Neocon faction doesn't get lost in the shuffle. When they start to fight over the future of their party, Trump is probably the easiest fall guy. I doubt the Big Money types behind the party really want Pence's Wannabe Theocracy any more than Trump's brand of populism.

There was a lot of talk on our side about how the Repugs have a fragile coalition, during the election. That's still true. The coming years won't be fun, but watching how they fall apart will at least be interesting.
