18. Okay, new rule

Reporters can't surmise or guess or infer or otherwise try to put a gloss on something President Trump tweeted. If the words of his tweet don't match up to reality, you don't get to say, "What he meant by that," or "what he may have been talking about," or "here's what he was probably referring to, maybe, if you squint your eyes just right and hold your mouth just so." If the text doesn't match reality, then it's WRONG. It's not your job to try to trim it here and buff it there so that it comes out to something that is maybe comprehensible.

Just stop doing that. Every goddam one of you.
