In theory, it is a repeat of history...
When the Europeans first figured out how to get across the ocean, they came in search of treasures & land.
What they found was land & treasure already possessed by an indigenous population.

Rather than engage in diplomacy or immediate massacre ...
the europeans sought the assistance of those indigenous persons who were unhappy with the existing rulers...
and staged a coup..
capturing the executive in the hopes of using the executive as a PUPPET to maintain control of the population and carry out the Europeans desires.
Why?
So that the population would continue to work and live as they had been...
except that the Europeans would now benefit from their labor by using them to transfer the existing natural resources, wealth & land ownership to the Europeans present and their respective monarchs.

Unfortunately, disease destroyed the indigenous population. They never truly had an opportunity to organize and try to oust the Europeans.

Meanwhile, the Europeans established their 'superiority' heirarchy as the official societal structure....
based on personal wealth, skin color, religion, and conformity to the European way of living....
