"Gillibrand, 52, is most well known for her efforts to combat sexual assault in the military and on college campuses, (etc. etc.)"
Maybe in some circles this is true, but in others, she is most well known for leading the charge to get Al Franken to resign from the Senate, something for which she has not been forgiven by the many who remain sympathetic to Senator Franken.
The cry of "opportunist!" has been leveled at presidential contenders almost since there have been such animals, so she wouldn't be the first to contend with the accusation. However, with a crowded field of qualified (as opposed to the Republican circus of two and six years ago) contenders for the nomination on the Democratic side in 2020, she will need some heavy persuasion to get beyond those who will not forgive the drive to get Franken to resign. Of those who do not forgive, I admit that I am so far a charter member.
