In reply to the discussion: Far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins to be deported after boasting about undermining COVID-19 [View all]Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)Yr claim: ''You want to be in a country that locks you down in your home and only lets you out for 2 hours a day?''
Me: I posted a link to the Guardian that explains that we're not locked in our homes and only let out for 2 hours a day. I can go one step further and post links to every state and territory website that shows that we're not locked in our homes. Maybe some pics of people crowding onto Sydney beaches during Gladys' lockdown-lite will have desired effect?
Yr response: 'So, you said that I was wrong, but then you posted quotes where I was correct.'
My question now is: Huh? Point to me in the public health orders for any State or Territory in Australia that says we're locked down in our homes and only lets us out for 2 hours a day.
Let me commend you for being far more knowledgeable of what's going on here than I am. I should stop checking in with my local government website and just check out the situation in Australia with random American fonts-of-all-knowledge when it comes to lockdowns.
Coming from a middling to little city in Australia where the population is pretty compliant with public health orders and we haven't had an active case in the community for over a year despite diplomats regularly coming in and out of the city, I'm curious to know why you have bad feels about our lockdowns. So forgive me for asking the following questions, minus any vaccination questions as I've assumed yr not opposed to vaccinations:
1. Are you anti-mask wearing? Look, my glasses fog up when I wear one, but I'm wearing it to protect myself and my family. Pissing off idiotic anti-mask morons by wearing it is an added incentive to wear it.
2. Do you have a problem with public health orders during a pandemic restricting our movement to control a deadly virus?
3. Are you opposed to vaccine passport type things that will stop moronic American anti-vaccers entering countries like Australia and New Zealand?
4. If covid is running rampant through your community, why would you not want to stay home and stop the spread? There are so many good things about lockdown I love working from home and not having to battle peak hour traffic. The savings in petrol is awesome! I love not having to socialise with people. Example: 'Hello? Oh, hi old school friend. What? You want to meet up with other old school friends I can't remember and talk about old times? I'd love to, but like there's this global pandemic happening, which means I'm safer sitting at home and binge-watching The Crown on Netflix. Let's catch up once the deadly virus is vanquished and we can do a P&O booze cruise through the Pacific and bogan our way through Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia!!
5. Do a comparison of the covid responses of the US and Australia. Compare the case numbers and the number of RW Karen types. Where would you rather live? I think I'm pretty lucky....
Anyway, I'm off to the local medical centre tomorrow for covid jab#2. That's the last of my immediate family fully vaccinated
