from an excellent public school system (and this was before the bullshit high stakes testing) to an independent secular school mainly because of the older son being bullied.

It turned out to be the best thing we could have done for them, and it was clear to me that public schools need to be vastly better funded, especially as they are mandated to accept all comers and get all of the special needs kids.

I also happily continued to pay school taxes, because I understood how fortunate we were that we had the resources to send our kids to the independent school.
