A couple of years ago, I argued with an orthodox Marxist here. I thought such things had vanished. He told me that the notion that collectivization of Soviet farms caused mass famine in Ukraine was false.

Now, that's an ideologue.

I also believe that many, if not most elected conservatives right wing ideologues believe at least parts of their nonsense. For example, I think Senator Inhofe is just stupid enough to believe that climate change science is a hoax; however, I'm not so sure about corporate executives like the Koch brothers and I seriously doubt that every fossil fuel magnate doesn't know he's lying when he promotes the global-warming-is-a-hoax hoax. The only thing that makes me think the Koch brothers really believe that nonsense is that they were raised by a founding member of the John Birch Society, a major disseminator of truly ridiculous conspiracy theories such as the assertion that the fluoridation of drinking water is a Communist plot or the one about President Eisenhower being "conscious, dedicated agent of the Communist Conspiracy." If you believe either of those, you'll believe anything.
