Meanwhile, the overall need for skilled workers declined as manufacturing plants were sent abroad, automation and overseas outsourcing will gradually consume the rest, and computerization allows us to slowly dumb-down (hello Siri, what's my name?).

To add to our demise, Republican's core belief that the individual is supreme is slowly creating an "every man is an island" mindset where anything associated with "community" is evil - including public education.

Bottom line: It's very hard to divide and conquer a well-educated, secular public that thinks for themselves.
