When I got divorced, my husband sued for the house. We had three cats. I looked at apartments but each one I looked at had a limit of two cats (or one cat, one dog). I cried for hours thinking of which of my babies I would have to give up and where that one would have to go as he didn't want any pets. My attorney worked like hell to get me the house. I gave up other assets but in the end, I got the house and I got to keep all three of my cats. When I got back from court, I kissed the front door and hugged and kissed each of the fur-babies. That was years ago, they're all gone now, but they had good lives -- 17, 16, and 18 when they died.

You're fortunate that the ones you leave behind will still have a good life. Making the decision is torture.
