The DU Lounge

(20,176 posts)The Lounge was insular and a little uncouth. Then we got invaded by various factions from elsewhere on DU that would come here to wage their crap or attempt to civilize us according to their values. (DU boards' versions of Manifest Destiny and Encomienda) It was fine when we had our own hosts who refused to allow that shit to fly...but now we're grouped in with the universal-pool of main fora hosts which has become problematic: good for GD and other fora, really bad for the Lounge as we're policed by people that would never ever ever ever participate here and don't understand that we don't really take their behavioral-concerns seriously.
This sentence has become the oft-over-abused "Best Interests of Baseball Clause" of forum hosting here: "The Lounge is supposed to be a friendly, welcoming place for everyone." I wish Skinner would fucking delete it and replace it with something a lot more concrete and less open to interpretation by hosts.
There is no such thing as "friendly, welcoming places for everyone" and attempts to make the Lounge one made it unfriendly and unwelcoming to pretty much anybody...so a lot of people said "fuck this" and left.
I don't post as much as I did. There is no reason to...the party is over, it's the sad afterglow as the people who have no place better to go mull about and try to figure out if there's still a chance the party might not be over.
