Just got off the phone with HR, who said management decided to consider last week my last day, but will pay me through this week!!!! it's such a relief because I really needed the $$ to tide me over. 
They don't want us back because we are in a position to do very serious damage if we're angry or disgruntled.
I think it's because my current manager knows that my prior manager had screwed me over royally. She also knows that we're grossly underpaid, that we know that our days are numbered. And my co-workers on her team really like me, as does she. 
She may also be remembering how I helped her with the prior manager from very early on by giving her ammunition to get that evil %^&$!!! taken off her client and knocked down a peg or two.
I don't even have to go in for an exit interiew. Instead, they are mailing me a package.
