Questions for People Who Don't Have Cats

11. Some live mice are kinda cute

If "cute" is the word I want. Can't think of the last time I described anything that way. Hmm.

A few years ago I lived in a dodgy apartment in a questionable neighborhood, in what I called "The Roach House". The place didn't just come with roaches, but (eventually) with mice and bedbugs. Fun times.

While I lived there, I had to take in my mother's cat while she was preparing a new house while trying to sell the old one. She couldn't have the cat in either place for... some reason or other.

Okay, I'll get to the point. The cat was with me during the period when my apartment picked up mice from one of the neighbors. He was adept at catching the things, but didn't know what to do with them once he caught them. He carried them around in his mouth and kept dropping them so he could poke and nudge them with a paw until they tried to flee, when he would catch them again. I took each mouse away from the cat and let it go outside, a block or so away from the building. One day we went on a mouse hunt, the cat and I, moving furniture so he could sniff out every crack and crevice. We caught three in one day, that way. Good times.

These were little hopping mice, and I suppose they were, as I said, cute. Cute, but stinky. Man, they smelled bad.
