and it isgerrymandered as a safe Republican district. It looks like the contest will be Bech Bruun and Michael Cloud on the GOP side. Cloud was cjairman of the Victoria County GOP and Victoria is the second largest city in the district (behind the portion of Corpus Christi in the district). The dominant industries in the district are oil/gas/chemical production, shipping and farming.

This district is not an area of the state known for its liberalism. In 2014, Farenthold ran against Wesley Reed (former military officer) and won with nearly 64% of the vote. I doubt that any Democrat can win the district despite the Farenthold scandal.
