Showing Original Post only (View all)A couple of weeks ago I got the dreadful Beyond sausages... [View all]
https://www.democraticunderground.com/115781453Last night I found the meat patties on sale. Two 1/4 lb patties in a package for $5.74 (less $1.76).
My first question, naturally, is why would I spend over 11 bucks a pound for fake 70% ground chuck? OK, I got them on sale for 8 bucks a pound, but we're still pushing prime sirloin prices.
Aside from the price, which should drop as production ramps up, they tasted far better than the atrocious, gag-inducing sausages. Quite tasty, actually, although still a slight bit gritty and nowhere near what $12 beef tastes like. They were sitting next to enormous packages of cheaper vegan Bubba Burgers, which aren't terrible, either. Nor are MorningStar, or other fake meats.
Aside from price and quality, I suppose the larger question is that when there are so many extremely good and satisfying meatless dishes out there already, what is the point of fake meat? Expensive fake meat at that.
