Evidently over the fuller july 4th '4 day' wkend it was 82 shot with 14 killed, including 2 killed by cops while holding guns. Chicago (mostly south chgo): 82 shootings in 84 hours.
In my opinion, the cold winter inhibited violent crime in Chicago first quarter jan thru march 2014, but it's warmed up.
donp: Rahm/Garry arithmetic: 4 people shot in the same fight in 2011 = 4 shootings, 4 people shot in the same fight 2014 = 1 shooting. See how easy it is to reduce the violent crime rate?
The fbi would list it as 4 aggravated assaults or murders by firearm (as case may be), with one shooting incident. The onscene local or state police would list the aggr'd assaults as 4, of course. FBI UCR would list 4 murders if murders.
But guns are more prevalent in Chicago now than they were 4 years ago, why aren't you complaining of the presence of more guns in Chicago as a possible contributing reason for more shootings? don't you even see the possible link?
And why do you complain of the smell in Chicago while ignoring the stink in your own backyard? (gun wise):

And just yday, a week past july 4th: Ronald Lee Haskell, 34, allegedly opened fire on his unsuspecting family in Houston, Texas... shot a total of 7 people July 9, leaving 6 dead and 1 injured.
