(11,605 posts)Even though he was too conservative for my liking, I felt proud that he was chosen to be Gore's VP because it was a symbol of how far we have come. Just like some black conservatives were proud of Obama's election even though they didn't agree with him politically (and may not have even voted for him). Plus, Lieberman wasn't nearly as intolerable back then as he became later.
At the same time, a lot of Jews were/are wary of having a Jewish president or vice president because throughout history one of the main antisemitic tropes has been that Jews have too much influence in government.
FWIW, I am way more excited about the prospect of Bernie becoming president than I was about the prospect of Lieberman becoming VP in 2000. And no, I didn't support Lieberman when he ran for president in 2004.
