exceptions does not seem to be a long suit for the two groups you name in your last sentence, Skidmore, and I regret living in a country where significant percentages of those two groups behave in exactly the way you describe.

Trump's far-right bellowing dismisses any and all authorities but itself. The Constitution? He's never read it, or if he has, he's made a fierce point to ignore its provisions.

The far-right Apocalypse Now fundie Christians are on board with Trump (not all but far too many) because their personal view that a savior is imminently due eclipses their respect for science, public education, social civility, women's reproductive freedom, and nearly everything else. The New Testament, they've never read it, or if they have, they are in denial and evading its teachings.

In both groups there is a pointed disregard for received opinion. It's their way or the highway, and they don't use turn signals.
