6. Better Candidates and Better Strategy
Thu Nov 6, 2014, 10:33 AM
Nov 2014

The Democratic Party needs better candidates and a better strategy. Getting better candidates may not be as important as getting a better strategy. It is possible that the Democrats running on Tuesday would have won if voter turnout had been higher on the Democratic side. However, it is also possible that the low turnout was due to the candidates on the ballot.

The Democratic Party leaders need to figure out how to get Democratic voters to the polls every two years. The good thing for the Republican Party is that Republican voters go to the polls every two years.

Another thing Democrats need to do is get control of local governments. Elections from 2008 have shown the importance of controlling local governments. If Democrats had been in control of local governments in 2010 they would have been in control of redistricting. If Democrats had been in control of redistricting they most likely would have regained control of the House of Representatives in 2012. If Democrats had regained control of the House, more legislation might have been passed and the economic standing of more Americans might have improved.
