(53,035 posts)committed to doing something about the gun violence that took her child's life. What could possibly matter in this world other than them and what they want? Certainly not Ms. Fulton or anyone else.
They can cast their vote, but to bully a woman for having the audacity to care about the gun violence that killed her child is as low as it is possible to sink.
They don't want a "corporatist war hawk." Fine. They can vote for whoever they want. I myself don't care for a campaign where narcissistic bullies are given free reign to harass people for having the audacity to care about something other than the egos of the perpetually self-entitled. Their empty sloganeering does not begin to excuse that kind of despicable behavior.
Like all of us, they each get one vote, no more, no less. They don't own Fulton's vote or those of any other American, though it's pretty clear they think they do.
It's bad enough they join the GOP in seeking to defund Planned Parenthood, that they embrace the support of far right anti-choice organizations in their contempt for Planned Parenthood, proving without a shadow of a doubt that PP was right in endorsing Clinton. It's bad enough that they have relentlessly harassed Gabby Giffords, who nearly lost her life and was greatly impaired from gun violence. But now to harass a woman who lost her child is lower than low. '
Fulton's endorsement, like Giffords and Planned Parenthood's, are about issues, issues relating to gun control and women's reproductive rights where Clinton is clearly much stronger than Sanders. And their response is the same empty hyperbole that in no way relates to the issues that those people addressed in making their endorsements. The reactions against them only show how those women were absolutely right in endorsing Clinton rather than a candidate who won't even act to keep his own supporters from working against those causes, let alone the GOP.
Sanders supporters who respect these women and their rights need to stand up to this shit. Ask yourselves if this is really what you want the legacy of Sanders' campaign to be? Because really, what possible cause could justify this egregious behavior? That is not the behavior of people who care about equality; it is the behavior of those who believe their own superiority trumps the concerns, rights, and even lives of others. It is incumbent on decent progressives to say enough is enough, to stand up for principle, for equality, and for basic human decency.
