Dave White's from DelCo

I'd think he'd have a good showing in Phila and 'burbs as a choice for the sane Rs.

McSwain has blanketed the air here in western PA with ads on top of having been US Atty for the area, but seems to have gotten little traction from either.

I thought Barletta would be stronger, but he must be "yesterday's news".

Dems looking to challenge in GOP-held districts

A nice article on western PA Dems who are stepping up to challenge the likes of Rothfus and Murphy and even Mike Turzai.

There's also info about a western PA Dem specific PAC that was recently formed to help fundraise for these Dem candidates.

Tom Prigg will challenge Rothfus in PA-12

Tom Prigg, D McCandless Twp, will challenge Keith Rothfus this cycle in PA-12. I believe prior to this he ran as a Green Party candidate. He was at the pro-ACA townhall in Beaver last month that Rothfus wouldn't attend. He stood up and introduced himself. He's got an interesting background, but was kind of soft spoken at the townhall.

Link FYI: https://www.tompriggforcongress.com/

He also has crowdpac and actblue fundraising pages for anyone interested in donating.

TPM/Bloomberg following the money from Russia to Trump

Link: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/follow-the-money--4

The Bloomberg story is embedded in TPM's story. The bottom line is a series of Russians/Ukrainians, etc first buying units in Trump buildings, then moving to financing them.

I personally agree with Josh Marshall that this is the story rather than looking for something more, but I think it's more than just a symbiotic business relationship in that Trump is so beholden to Russian interests that he is subject to being manipulated because he's so in debt to Putin's oligarch friends. I believe Trump understands Putin could pull the rug out from under his finances if he wants.

Casey to fight Trumpcare; Rothfus wants input

Link: http://www.timesonline.com/timestoday/casey-leads-charge-against-house-gop-health-care-plan-as/article_27c4fe70-0386-11e7-84d0-ebbb962aeadb.html (goes behind paywall after 24 hours)

Rothfus:

As for southwest Pennsylvania House Republicans, they were also digesting the ACHA before commenting. “I am already reading and reviewing the legislation to determine it addresses the concerns I have had for seven years, and I welcome feedback from constituents on the proposal,” said U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-12, Sewickley, in an emailed statement.

Rothfus has made repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act a chief part of his congressional agenda since being elected in 2012. Rothfus is a former member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, which had some members criticize the GOP plan on Tuesday for not abolishing all aspects of Obamacare and promise to introduce their own plan.

Toomey:
Toomey, however, did discuss overhauling the healthcare law during a stop Monday at a Philadelphia television station for a question-and-answer session.

The Associated Press reported that he said addressing the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, as Pennsylvania and other states have done, should be a “negotiated agreement” and that Americans with pre-existing conditions and serious health issues should obtain coverage in a high-risk pool subsidized by the government.

Shuster and Murphy:
Casey Contres, the spokesman for U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-9, Bedford County, said Shuster was also reviewing the legislation. ... Tim Murphy said, “Despite the promises we were told seven years ago, with nearly 5 million Americans who were kicked off their insurance, $1 trillion in new taxes and an average increase of 25 percent in premiums this year, the Affordable Care Act has failed

Even Republicans like clean water

Trump won Beaver borough handily, but even those residents want clean water.

About 50 people came to the Vanport Volunteer Fire Department hall Tuesday evening to listen to representatives from the state Department of Environmental Protection talk about the agency’s response to elevated levels of a chemical being found near Vanport’s water supply.

That chemical, an industrial solvent called trichloroethylene or TCE, was first found in 1988 in test wells about 1,500 feet from Vanport’s drinking supply. The incident prompted a boil water advisory that lasted more than 20 months, and routine testing in the area has been in place since.

Mike Keeliher said there is a hospital, an elementary school and two senior citizen centers in Brighton that rely on clean drinking water from Vanport’s system.

“This isn’t just a Vanport issue,” he said.

Toomey can't move his office locations fast enough

I'm sure this has been in the works for awhile, but the timing couldn't look worse for Toomey. He just moved his Pgh office from the south side to the federal building on Grant Street and now he's moving his Philly office to the federally-owned Customs House. All this in the midst of the "Tuesdays with Toomey" protestors showing up every Tuesday.

Sort of like whack-a-mole!

Fighting gerrymandering in PA

Yes, there is a group fighting to reverse the ridiculous gerry-mandering in our state.

Rothfus sighting!

At the townhall tonight, one of the attendees stood up and announced Rothfus would be speaking at a church or christian group on Friday 2/25 near Murraysville and Delmont on Rt 22, iirc. I'm not on social media, so perhaps someone who is can find out more details. As I understand it, Rothfus is the featured speaker and the event is open to the public.
