About the Speaker of the House

Is it possible that the democratic house members could recruit some moderate reasonable republican to run? He would only need what? a dozen or so republican votes to become speaker?

I am sure this has been discussed before, but i have not seen it and thought a lot about this.

Anyone Think This Guy Could Follow in Bill Clinton's Footsteps?

Please save us from Sarah Huckabee!

I have no conflict of interest to disclose. I never met the guy. Just read his biography and hope you do too.

A Proposal For A New Holiday

Reading through many discussions of vaccines and problems getting them and thinking about the political divisions over masks and vaccines, I began to think about a new national holiday.

Description of the Holiday:

I don't know what to call it: National Vaccine Day?, Pandemic Victory Day?, something else?

In any case, the "rituals" associated with the day would include:

1. Getting yearly vaccinces: flu; covid?; shingles? others? This would suggest it would be sometime in the fall when annual flu vaccines are available. It would also help manufacturers and providers to gear up for the day.

2. People would also wear masks (even if not needed) to remember how fight pandemics and bring people together.

3. What other "rituals" might you suggest?

Justification for The Holiday:

In short, a day dedicated to remembering victims, celebrating healthcare workers, and celebrating health scientists.

I "believe/have faith" that this will increase vaccination rates for all kinds of viruses. I have no evidence for this. Maybe some of you do or have evidence to the contrary?

Personally, I think this kinda thing would "vaccinate" people's attitudes against the anti-vaxxers and anti-science zealots. It would also contribute keeping this thing from fading away in our memory and keep us all vigilant for future pandemics.

Reasons to be Kind to Me:

I am certainly no expert and this might be a terrible idea. Be kind when you tell me why it is such a bad idea. Maybe I had a bit too much to drink tonight. LOL.

Question about Vaccine Shipments

The CNN article I am going to link at the bottom of this indicates that Biden is increasing shipments of vaccines to retail pharmacies. Overall, that sounds like a really good idea and something I fully support. However, I was under the impression that one of the logistical barriers was that most pharmacies lacked the ability to provide the very cold storage these vaccines require. Am I missing something?

I guess overall, I have just been a bit concerned about the ability to keep these mRNA vaccines cold enough on this scale. I received my first (Pfizer) a week ago and looking forward to my second. But, it was a large scale mass vaccination site. I was worried about them keeping it cold and I hope it is effective. Anyone else worried about this?
