How do you feel about corporate suits telling their "minions"

to ask customers personal questions? (Quotes around minions to denote that I am seeing it from the corporate overlords' perspective of their workers. )

I am gonna get specific here: Trader Joe's. They seem to have a policy where they are told to ask customers what sorts of things they have planned for the weekend. My two reactions are: A) I must suck because I have NOTHING on the docket or B) Don't get all up in my Kool-Aid.

I used to work retail myself and we had these dorky tools (middle management a-holes) who would schedule our meetings (glorified circle jerks) on Saturday nights. And give us handouts on bullshit to say to customers like complimenting them on the color of their eyes.
