Factories burned discarded automobile batteries in the 1970s, releasing pollutants into the air. Current regulations require the batteries to be recycled without contaminating the surrounding area, though some are exported.






EPA officials used briefcase-size monitors to test radiation levels. This image shows them testing the monitors in a Las Vegas lab before sending them out to be used.


This photo shows a burning barge on the Ohio River in May 1972. A fire on the Cuyahoga River in 1969 (the 13th time that river had caught fire) helped to inspire the creation of the EPA.


Mary Workman of Steubenville, Ohio, holds a jar of undrinkable water from her well in this photo. She filed a lawsuit against a coal company, accusing it of polluting her water. The EPA now uses the Clean Water Act to prevent companies from contaminating drinking water.

Former CBS News journalist Lara Logan says the mainstream media is not allowing President Trump to be “normalized” as the nation's leader and accused CNN, among others, of passing off opinions as fact in a Fox News interview set to air Sunday.

“I've never seen the press corps behave the way they do today," Logan told host Mark Levin on “Life, Liberty & Levin. "So, it stands out to me because it's a departure from what I've seen throughout the last three decades. There is something actually much more significant about what you're seeing happen with the White House press corps.”

Logan also told Levin that America’s academic institutions and newsrooms lacked political diversity.

“It's no secret that the vast majority of academic institutions in this country are liberal,” Logan said. “So what bothers me is that one political ideology dominates all of your academic, almost all, of your academic institutions. And that same political ideology dominates all of your newsrooms, almost all, of your newsrooms. I mean, let's face it, until Fox News in television. Where did you go if you weren't a liberally minded moderate, if you, like, if you wanted to hear an alternative point of view or a conservative point of view?”

NFL - Buccaneers hire 2 female assistant coaches

The Buccaneers have hired Lori Locust and Maral Javadifar, making Tampa Bay the first NFL team with two female coaches on staff.

Locust and Javadifar are the first full-time female coaches in Bucs franchise history. Locust is an assistant defensive line coach, and Javadifar is an assistant strength and conditioning coach, the team announced.

"I know how hard it can be to get that first opportunity to coach at the highest level of professional football," coach Bruce Arians said in a statement released by the team. "Sometimes, all you need is the right organization to offer up the opportunity. The Glazer family and our general manager, Jason Licht, were extremely supportive of my decision, and I know Maral and Lori will be great additions to my coaching staff."

Javadifar, who played basketball at Pace University in New York, has her doctorate in physical therapy from New York Medical College and completed her sports physical therapy residency at VCU in August. She has worked as a physical therapist and performance trainer in Seattle and Virginia.

In 2015, Arians hired Jen Welter as a training camp intern with the Arizona Cardinals, making her the first woman to hold an NFL coaching position.

MySpace — the once-dominant social media platform that was largely subsumed by Facebook — may have lost a decade's worth of music uploaded by users, the company says.

Now the company says millions of music files uploaded to the site may have disappeared.

NPR has reached out for comment from MySpace. According to several media reports, it posted a message on its site recently reading, "As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from MySpace. We apologize for the inconvenience."

"More than 50 million tracks from 14 million artists has been lost," reports The Guardian.

The site was purchased by News Corp. in 2005 for $580 million. News Corp. considered acquiring Yahoo and merging it with MySpace but eventually dropped those plans. Instead, it sold MySpace for $35 million in 2011. The site has waned in popularity since its creation, but some members have continued to use it as a place to store music, photos and other media files.
