Pollution... in pictures. Pre-EPA.

Vintage photos taken by the EPA reveal what America looked like before pollution was regulated
Link here https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-america-before-epa-documerica-2017-10

Smog, seen here obscuring the George Washington Bridge in New York, was a far bigger problem.

Smog was common, as this shot of Louisville and the Ohio River from 1972 shows.
Smog, seen here obscuring the George Washington Bridge in New York, was a far bigger problem.

Factories burned discarded automobile batteries in the 1970s, releasing pollutants into the air. Current regulations require the batteries to be recycled without contaminating the surrounding area, though some are exported.

EPA officials used briefcase-size monitors to test radiation levels. This image shows them testing the monitors in a Las Vegas lab before sending them out to be used.

This photo shows a burning barge on the Ohio River in May 1972. A fire on the Cuyahoga River in 1969 (the 13th time that river had caught fire) helped to inspire the creation of the EPA.

Mary Workman of Steubenville, Ohio, holds a jar of undrinkable water from her well in this photo. She filed a lawsuit against a coal company, accusing it of polluting her water. The EPA now uses the Clean Water Act to prevent companies from contaminating drinking water.

PRESS CONFERENCE - AG Barr between 3-5pm ET today. Dems conference call.

Yes I was looking through Fox News and found this

“The Attorney General wants to get this out tonight," the source said, noting that some procedural hurdles could delay Barr's release. “It will hit what is on everyone’s minds — no parsing of words, no games."

A separate source told Fox News that Barr is likely to report on Mueller's primary conclusions between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET.

Fox News has also confirmed that House Democrats, meanwhile, will conduct a conference call at 3 p.m. E.T. Saturday with “chairs of relevant committees” to discuss next steps regarding the Mueller report and messaging. New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries will host as Caucus Chair, and attendees will include Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah E. Cummings, and Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff, as well as Committee on Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters.

If your interested in Glen Greenwald's take it's here too

Lara Logan (you know she used to be on CBS) discusses media bias with Mark Levin on Fox News

I count four times in this short article that Fox mentions CBS or 60 Minutes. I guess they were trying to establish her credibility or her former insider status.

Lara Logan, formerly of CBS, sounds off on media's treatment of Trump, other liberal bias

Former CBS News journalist Lara Logan says the mainstream media is not allowing President Trump to be “normalized” as the nation's leader and accused CNN, among others, of passing off opinions as fact in a Fox News interview set to air Sunday.

“I've never seen the press corps behave the way they do today," Logan told host Mark Levin on “Life, Liberty & Levin. "So, it stands out to me because it's a departure from what I've seen throughout the last three decades. There is something actually much more significant about what you're seeing happen with the White House press corps.”

Logan also told Levin that America’s academic institutions and newsrooms lacked political diversity.

“It's no secret that the vast majority of academic institutions in this country are liberal,” Logan said. “So what bothers me is that one political ideology dominates all of your academic, almost all, of your academic institutions. And that same political ideology dominates all of your newsrooms, almost all, of your newsrooms. I mean, let's face it, until Fox News in television. Where did you go if you weren't a liberally minded moderate, if you, like, if you wanted to hear an alternative point of view or a conservative point of view?”

Oxfords Free Course - Critical Reasoning for Beginners (VIDEO)

Talbot builds the course from the ground up, and begins by explaining that arguments consist of a set of premises that, logically linked together, lead to a conclusion. She proceeds to outline the way to lay out an argument logically and clearly, and eventually, the basic steps involved in assessing its strengths and weaknesses.

The six-part series, which was recorded in 2009, shows no sign of wear, and Talbot, unlike some philosophy professors, does a terrific job of making the content digestible. If you’ve got some time on your hands, the lectures, which average just over an hour in length, can be finished in less than a week. That's peanuts, if you consider that all of our knowledge is built on the foundations that this course establishes. If you haven’t had the chance to be exposed to a class on critical thought, I can’t recommend Critical Reasoning For Beginners with enough enthusiasm: there are few mental skills that are as underappreciated, and as central to our daily lives, as critical thinking.

NFL - Buccaneers hire 2 female assistant coaches

The Buccaneers have hired Lori Locust and Maral Javadifar, making Tampa Bay the first NFL team with two female coaches on staff.

Locust and Javadifar are the first full-time female coaches in Bucs franchise history. Locust is an assistant defensive line coach, and Javadifar is an assistant strength and conditioning coach, the team announced.

"I know how hard it can be to get that first opportunity to coach at the highest level of professional football," coach Bruce Arians said in a statement released by the team. "Sometimes, all you need is the right organization to offer up the opportunity. The Glazer family and our general manager, Jason Licht, were extremely supportive of my decision, and I know Maral and Lori will be great additions to my coaching staff."

Javadifar, who played basketball at Pace University in New York, has her doctorate in physical therapy from New York Medical College and completed her sports physical therapy residency at VCU in August. She has worked as a physical therapist and performance trainer in Seattle and Virginia.

In 2015, Arians hired Jen Welter as a training camp intern with the Arizona Cardinals, making her the first woman to hold an NFL coaching position.

OH NO! **MySpace** lost a decade of music uploads during a server migration

Side note - there are about 10 or so people in the Richmond area who still work for Circuit City.

MySpace Says It Lost Years Of User-Uploaded Music

https://www.npr.org/2019/03/18/704458168/myspace-says-it-lost-years-of-user-uploaded-music

MySpace — the once-dominant social media platform that was largely subsumed by Facebook — may have lost a decade's worth of music uploaded by users, the company says.

Now the company says millions of music files uploaded to the site may have disappeared.

NPR has reached out for comment from MySpace. According to several media reports, it posted a message on its site recently reading, "As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from MySpace. We apologize for the inconvenience."

"More than 50 million tracks from 14 million artists has been lost," reports The Guardian.

The site was purchased by News Corp. in 2005 for $580 million. News Corp. considered acquiring Yahoo and merging it with MySpace but eventually dropped those plans. Instead, it sold MySpace for $35 million in 2011. The site has waned in popularity since its creation, but some members have continued to use it as a place to store music, photos and other media files.

NYT - A Mar-a-Lago Weekend and an Act of God: Trump's History With Deutsche Bank

Long article going waaaay back into their history.

Mr. Trump and Deutsche Bank were deeply entwined, their symbiotic bond born of necessity and ambition on both sides: a real estate mogul made toxic by polarizing rhetoric and a pattern of defaults, and a bank with intractable financial problems and a history of misconduct.

In the weeks before Ms. Vrablic attended his swearing-in, the bank commissioned reports to figure out how it had gotten in so deep with Mr. Trump. It issued an unusual edict to its Wall Street employees: Do not publicly utter the word “Trump.”

Over nearly two decades, Deutsche Bank’s leaders repeatedly saw red flags surrounding Mr. Trump. There was a disastrous bond sale, a promised loan that relied on a banker’s forged signature, wild exaggerations of Mr. Trump’s wealth, even a claim of an act of God.

In early 2016, Mr. Trump asked Ms. Vrablic for one final loan, for his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland.
Ms. Vrablic said yes, but a fight soon erupted.
