Today at 11am PT, 2pm ET: Free streaming concert by Ukrainian group DakhaBrakha

(as requested by DUer SheltieLover, cross-posted from General Discussion, Music Appreciation, & The Lounge)

A July 2018 performance by Kyiv's own DakhaBrakha will be streamed free today at 11 a.m. Pacific time, 2 p.m. EST. The concert was recorded at SFJAZZ, but this band is more a combination of traditional Ukrainian folk music and more modern influences, with hardly any overlap with the jazz realm.

Also available via the SFJAZZ app: https://www.sfjazz.org/app/

With cello, accordion, percussion, and vocals, this entertaining band puts on a good show. AND, for those who want to contribute, it's a benefit for the DakhaBrakha Fund:

As an expression of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, SFJAZZ is interrupting our normal Fridays Live programming for a free broadcast featuring Kyiv's DakhaBrakha, filmed at the SFJAZZ Center on July 18, 2018.

We encourage everyone to donate generously to the DakhaBrakha Fund, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the band, to be reallocated to their families as well as organizations aiding civilians in Ukraine.

Fridays Live (formerly Fridays at Five) was created to provide much needed support to musicians during the pandemic – raising over $600K for artists to date. With another crisis now affecting the lives of one of our artists, we hope this series can continue to unify and generate support in a time of need.

Here's a taste of what you can expect --

Sen. Warnock releases first TV ad of 2022 campaign

From the Warnock campaign:
"I have exciting news! We just launched the very first TV ad of our reelection campaign – and it's a special one.

It tells the story of everyday Georgians who are struggling to make ends meet – and why I'm in this fight to carry their voices all the way to Washington."

Stop the EARN IT Act to Save Our Privacy

From the Electronic Frontier Foundation (https://act.eff.org/action/stop-the-earn-it-act-to-save-our-privacy):

The U.S. Senate has revived a surveillance bill that would have a lethal impact on privacy, security, and free speech. If Congress passes the EARN IT Act (S.3538), it may become too legally risky for companies to offer encryption services. Instead, they’ll be pressured to scan nearly all online content.

We need your support to stop the EARN IT Act before it gets any farther. The Senate Judiciary Committee could vote on this bill as soon as next week. This disastrous bill was first proposed two years ago, and then dropped after overwhelming public resistance. We beat this bill once before, and we can do it again.

The EARN IT Act uses crimes against children as a justification to invite all 50 states to regulate the privacy protections internet websites and apps provide to their users. The bill’s supporters have made their message clear: don’t use true end-to-end encryption. Instead, scan everything.

State legislatures will have unprecedented power over websites, both large and small, and will likely pressure companies to scan not only messages, but cloud storage, online photos, and entire websites.

How to close your Spotify account - link:

https://support.spotify.com/us/article/close-account/

I've seen a few reports saying Spotify won't let users cancel their subscriptions. This is inaccurate.

I have (had) a free Spotify account -- which I never listened to (I prefer other sources of music and podcasts, for a variety of reasons -- the Joe Rogan travesty nudged me to close it). This account is linked only to a disposable email address and fake personal information anyway (a strategy I recommend for as many online accounts as possible), so I could "cancel" it at any time by just deleting the email address. But I wanted to remove one more account from their system, so I logged in to try to find out how.

I poked around a bit and couldn't find information about closing the account, either on their Support page or by searching the site. So I sent a message from my disposable email address to support@spotify.com asking how I could cancel my account, since I didn't want to use a service that supports one of the most prominent disseminators of COVID misinformation.

Very quickly I got this reply:
Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you want to close your account. Let us help you sort this out.

Upon checking, we pulled up a free account linked to this email address.

That said, we recommend that you close your account completely by following these steps. (This link goes to the page at the top of this OP.)

Please note that when an account is closed, we’ll delete or anonymize your personal data so it no longer identifies you, except for data we are legally allowed or required to maintain, such as for tax and accounting purposes, unresolved disputes, and security or fraud prevention.

That should cover everything. If you have other questions, feel free to write back to us.

Until then,

(name)

Spotify Customer Support

I followed the steps at the link and almost immediately got a confirmation email with a link to say I really wanted to close the account. I clicked it and then got a "final goodbye" email with a link to reactive the account within seven days if I just can't live without it.

I tried logging in again, and got a "no user with those credentials" alert. So it worked. I assume it's as easy if you have a paid account, but others would need to confirm that.

I've now deleted the disposable email address, so that's that.
