"Occam's Razor" simply states that, in most instances, the simplest and most apparent explanation for an occurrence is correct. If you hear hoofbeats in Wyoming, yes, it COULD be zebras, but it is almost certainly horses.
We---me definitely included---have spent years now trying to "understand" the Trumpie/MAGA/Q-anon people. We propose all sorts of "reasoning" which often postulates that these folks are "victims"---poor deceived citizens whose wills and bank accounts have been co-opted by a "shrewd" manipulater.
Is it not simpler and more obvious that these people support a maniac who is cruel, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, arrogant, selfish and consistently dishonest because----that's who they are, too, and they are positively giddy to have permission to "be themselves"?
"Broad brush"?
Yup.
Maybe it's time to use ours.
The barbarians are no longer "at the gate". Some are in Congress, six are wearing robes at the
SCOTUS, one lives at Mar-A-Lago, too many are called "governor" and millions-----walk among us.
A note to "sunshine progressives" and "summer Democrats"----this shit is really happening.
Merely voting Democratic in November will not stop the MAGA fascists from taking complete control of our nation and our lives. We need to contribute as much money as we can, volunteer to stuff envelopes, canvass, phone bank or whatever and get as many friends, relatives and co-workers to the polls to ALSO vote Democratic.
And, we need to be willing to be "street meat"---warm bodies willing to march, sit in, block highways and, in general, raise holy hell with the cruel greedy graspers determined to usher in an era of autocratic rule. The place to make "good trouble" is "in their face .
Some of us will get arrested. Some will get hurt. Some will not be welcome at the family table next Thanksgiving.
What is worth all that?
If we don't win this next election, we will likely never win another. There may not even BE another election.
In Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny" he tells us that the Germans who voted in 1932, the Czechs and Slovaks who voted in 1946 and the Russians who voted in 1990 did not realize there would not be another meaningful fair election for them. "Any election can be the last, or at least the last in the lifetime of the person casting the vote."
Don't let this next election be our last. Remember "Fired up and ready to go!" ?
We need that again---on steroids!
