Newt Gingrich: Republicans must expel Matt Gaetz

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is an anti-Republican who has become actively destructive to the conservative movement.

Drama has filled the halls of Congress for 234 years. Bringing together a group of 435 strong-willed personalities guarantees conflict, and it has always been a tumultuous body. But some behavior crosses the line — and when it does, there has to be consequences.

Gaetz obviously hates House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) — and that’s fine. If Gaetz were simply a loudmouthed junior member who attacked McCarthy every day, that would be fine, too. He would just be isolated with a small group of lawmakers who can’t figure out how to get things done. They’d huddle together seeking warmth and reassurance from their fellow incompetents.

But Gaetz has gone beyond regular drama. He is destroying the House GOP’s ability to govern and draw a sharp contrast with the policy disasters of the Biden administration.

Vote for new House speaker will be next week, GOP lawmakers say

Source: CNN

The House of Representatives will be in recess until next week and return Tuesday night for a conference meeting before a potential vote later that week on electing a new speaker, according to Reps Matt Gaetz and Bob Good.

“Hopefully vote on a speaker on Wednesday. And I don't know if that would mean within conference Wednesday or within conference Tuesday night or on the floor,” Good said.

Kari Lake formally files for Senate bid

Source: Politico

Kari Lake has formally filed to run for U.S. Senate in Arizona.

The conservative firebrand and ardent Donald Trump supporter had teased a run for weeks with expectations of a campaign launch for early October. National Republicans had initially been skittish on her candidacy after she lost the governor’s race in 2022 and launched a multi-month effort to challenge the validity of that vote.

But she has remained active in GOP politics since then, meeting with D.C. officials and staying particularly close to Trump. She spent Tuesday on Capitol Hill meeting with senators ahead of her expected launch next week.

Lake will enter the race as the heavy favorite to emerge from the GOP primary. But the general election is far less certain. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) has hinted that she plans to run for reelection as an independent, while Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has been campaigning for the seat for months.

Trump is taking his gag order well...

It is so unfair that I am being tried under Section 63(12), which is unconstitutionally being used to punish me because I am substantially leading Crooked Joe Biden in the polls. It is a Consumer Protection Statute, and not meant, at all, for Election Interference purposes, which is what this is all about! Under this Section of the law, I am not even entitled to a JURY (there is no checking of a box alternative!).This was done by Radical Left Marxists design, and is not the America we know. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Pro-Christie groups urge New Hampshire Dems to switch parties and back him

Chris Christie’s political operation is aggressively trying to persuade New Hampshire Democrats to switch parties to vote for the former New Jersey governor in the state’s first-in-the-nation Republican presidential primary.

Two organizations aligned with Christie — who is centering his campaign around his outspoken opposition to former President Donald Trump — have launched advertising campaigns targeting Democratic voters. Those efforts come just days ahead of the state’s Oct. 6 deadline to switch party registration.

The pro-Christie Tell It Like It Is super PAC is sending mailers to registered Democratic voters ahead of that deadline, urging them to switch affiliations. The mailer tries to woo Democrats by telling them they can help “make sure” Trump “never sees the inside of the Oval Office again.”

“This can’t happen again,” the mailer says, against a background photo showing rioters storming the Capitol on Jan. 6. “You can make sure it doesn’t. Stop Trump by switching parties & voting in the Republican primary.”

Without Biden to vote for, he might get some response.
