Trump meets with el-Sisi - "He's done a fantastic job"

https://twitter.com/CNNPolitics/status/848934091642859520

Reviled by activists for what they call the harshest political repression in Egypt’s history, Sisi has emerged as an early Trump favorite among world leaders. The two men first met during the presidential campaign in September, leading Trump to call Sisi a “fantastic guy,” and Sisi was the first foreign leader to reach Trump after his election.

NYT: This is not a debatable issue. This is not fake news. This is not a witch hunt. This happened.

Dwindling Odds of Coincidence
Charles M. Blow APRIL 3, 2017

We are still not conclusively able to connect the dots on the question of whether there was any coordination or collusion between members of Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russians who interfered in our election to benefit him, but those dots do continue to multiply at an alarming rate.

First, and we have to keep saying this because this fact keeps getting obscured in the subterfuge of deflection, misdirection and ideological finger-pointing about what has yet to be proven: It is absolutely clear that the Russians did interfere in our election. This is not a debatable issue. This is not fake news. This is not a witch hunt. This happened.

The investigations, rightly, are seeking to figure out exactly how and to what degree, and those questions obviously depend on knowing more about campaign contacts with Russian meddlers.

................

The journalistic caution in me keeps having to write that these could all be coincidences, but the journalistic instinct has learned long ago that coincidence is the albino alligator of political reality: It exists, but is exceedingly rare.

How many Profiles are we going to read about Idiot Trump Supporters Doubling Down On Whiteness?

HOW MANY PROFILES ARE WE GOING TO READ ABOUT IDIOT TRUMP SUPPORTERS DOUBLING DOWN ON SELF-SABOTAGING WHITENESS?

.............

Gawk at the follow passage, and tell me how you can read it and not be completely spellbound by it.

Judy Banks, a 70-year-old struggling to get by, said she voted for Trump because “he was talking about getting rid of those illegals.” But Banks now finds herself shocked that he also has his sights on funds for the Labor Department’s Senior Community Service Employment Program, which is her lifeline. It pays senior citizens a minimum wage to hold public service jobs. “This program makes sense,” said Banks, who was placed by the program into a job as a receptionist for a senior nutrition program. Banks said she depends on the job to make ends meet, and for an excuse to get out of the house.

“If I lose this job,”
she said, “I’ll sit home and die.”

Yet she said she might still vote for Trump in 2020

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/01/opinion/sunday/in-trump-country-shock-at-trump-budget-cuts-but-still-loyalty.html

If Trump does what he says he’s going to do, she knows she’ll have nothing to live for and might even die. But she still would vote for him — even if that vote came from the fucking grave. Keeping “those illegals” out and retaining the value of Whiteness in America is so important to her that she’d choose that over her own life.

And perhaps quotes like that articulate the true value of these endless and mind-numbing profiles. It’s not for us to be sympathetic to them, or to determine how to reach them, but for us to finally collectively realize that they just can’t be reached. That we’re operating with different currencies, and concepts like “logic” and “literally saving your own fucking ass” are valueless to them. That they’d rather see us gone or dead (or both) than themselves alive.

So yes, let’s continue to read about and study them. Not to figure out how to sway them, but to squash any inkling or thought of feeling bad for them.

SCOOP: Trumps trust - revised to explicitly say he can take profits from his biz anytime he wants:

https://twitter.com/ericuman/status/848871423330463749

Trump Can Pull Money From His Businesses Whenever He Wants — Without Ever Telling Us
Previously unreported changes to President Trump’s trust stipulate that it “shall distribute net income or principal to Donald J. Trump at his request.”

.........A small phrase buried deep in a set of recently released letters between the Trump Organization and the government shows just how little separation there actually is.

..............

The previously unreported changes to a trust document, signed on Feb. 10, stipulates that it “shall distribute net income or principal to Donald J. Trump at his request” or whenever his son and longtime attorney “deem appropriate.” That can include everything from profits to the underlying assets, such as the businesses themselves.

Here is the new clause, from page 161:
CHECK OUT # 9
TRUST CERTIFICATION CHANGE, FEB 10 (p. 161)

........................

There is nothing requiring Trump to disclose when he takes profits from the trust, which could go directly into his bank or brokerage account. That’s because both the trust and Trump Organization are privately held. The only people who know the details of the Trump trust’s finances are its trustees, Trump’s son, Donald Jr., and Allen Weisselberg, the company’s chief financial officer. Trump's other son, Eric, has been listed as an adviser to the trust, according to this revised document.
